Actually Crispy Apple Crisp

A classic dish with crisp topping and and gooey filling

Apple Filling

  • 5-6 small apples (diced)
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional)

Crispy Crumble

  • 1/2 cup melted butter (1 stick)
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds


  1. Preheat oven to 375F 


  1. In a pan, add 2 tbsp butter and 1/2 cup brown sugar and heat on medium high heat until it becomes a caramel like sauce. 

  2. Juice 1/2 of the lemon and slice the other half. Add in the lemon juice and slices, apples, salt, and cinnamon into pan. Cook and stir apples for about 6-7 min, or until apples are soft. 


  1. Mix the flour, oats, melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon together in a large bowl. You will add the almonds later. 


  1. Add the filling into a 8-9 inch pan, or something similar. Spread the crumble mixture evenly on top. Lastly, sprinkle the almond slivers on top of the crumble. 

  2. Bake in a preheated oven for about 25 min, or until you observe browning and bubbles on top. If you see almonds getting too browned, you can cover with a sheet of aluminum foil to avoid burning. 

  3. Serve warm and enjoy!
